BSC Lose Doubleheader to Benedict

Columbia, SC- Bluefield State went on the road to Columbia, SC to face HBCU foe Benedict in a two 7-inning games Saturday. Both of these games were high scoring for the second weekend in a row. However BSC had some unlucky breaks and fell 11-5 in game 1 and 8-7 in game two.

Tanner Muovich started game one looking to improve on his performance from his last time out. Muovich started strong early, pitching shutouts in the 1st two innings. But in the 3rd he ran into some trouble giving up 5 runs. After getting out of the 3rd, Tanner was able to settle down in the 4th only conceding 1 run. Addison Meeks came on in relief and really got rattled. Romero Cartwright came on to relieve Meeks in his 1st appearance of the season. Cartwright finished the 7-inning game only allowing 2 hits in 1.2 innings of work. Muovich took the loss in game 1 and is now 0-1 on the season.

Offense in game 1 went through Logan Wriston and Sam Harris. Harris got the Big Blues on the board in the 1st inning, singling home Peyton Durham and Chase Chambers. Harris scored later that inning due to a walk giving to Billy O'Hara. Logan Wriston's moment in game 1 came in the 6th inning when he doubled scoring Billy O'Hara and Sam Harris. Bluefield State got one more chance in the 7th inning but were unable to muster anything and the game ended 11-5.

Bo Williams got the nod in game 2 against the Tigers. Williams went 3.2 innings giving up 5 runs on 6 hits. He also had 5 strikeouts, highest among Bluefield State pitchers in a single outing this season. Brandon Workoetter came on in relief and had a chance to pick up his 2nd save of the season but gave up a two run home run late in the 6th inning to see Bluefield State fall 8-7.

Peyton Durham and Logan Wriston provided some fireworks, both going yard in the game. Durham's came in the 3rd inning and was apart of his 2 hit afternoon. Writson continued his impressive performance from game 1 with a two hit, three RBI night. Writson's homerun came at a crucial time in the game in the 6th inning. His homerun to left field tied the game in the 6th inning and the Big Blues ended up taking the lead later in the inning when Justin Bowler scored on a balk. Kevon Moxey also had an impressive game behind the plate in his 1st action of the season. Moxey scored and recorded an RBI in his 1st collegiate action of the season.

The Big Blues will be on the road again for a single game against NCAA DIII opponent Guilford on Saturday the 18th. Live Stats will be provided for the game against the Quakers. Check out for access.
