Baseball Struggles Early in Loss to Guilford

Greensboro, NC- Big Blues baseball was back in action for a single game contest against the Guilford College Quakers. The Big Blues got off to a slow start and could not quite recover, losing 9-1.

Tanner Muovich took the mound for Bluefield State, Muovich struggled in 2.2 innings of work, giving up 6 runs (5 earned) on 7 hits and only recording 1 strikeout. This was Muovich's 3rd start of the season and his second loss on the season. Coach Hunter turned to Brandon Workoetter to relieve Muovich, but it was a lot earlier than Workoetter typically appears in games. Brandon went 3.1 innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits. Brandon Chandler came on in the 7th inning for his 2nd appearance this season. Chandler went 1 inning not giving up a hit and recorded a strikeout. To close out the game, Chaz Rutherford made his 1st appearance on the mound this season, giving up 1 run on 1 hit.

Bluefield State's lone run came in the top of the 7th inning of a crazy sequence of plays. Drew D'Angelo started things off by reaching on an error. After two singles by Peyton Durham and Cole Blocker, Billy O'Hara came to the plate. O'Hara reached because of catcher's interference. Catcher's interference is typically only called when a catcher reaches out his glove and it touches the batter, usually when the batter swings. This interference caused O'Hara to reach 1st and advanced every runner, scoring D'Angelo.
