BSC Takes Game 1 @ Paine

Augusta, GA- The Big Blues went on the road again to face another HBCU school in Paine University. BSC edged out a win in the 1st game of the series 6-5 but could not rally in games 2 & 3, losing 6-2 and 9-0.

Coach Hunter went with Bo Williams in the 1st game and he had an excellent outing. Williams went 5 innings, giving up 5 run on 5 hits. While 5 runs were plated while he was on the mound, 2 of them were actually earned because the Big Blues defense had two errors which scored 3 runs. Addison Meeks came on in relief in the 6th inning and pitch 2 innings of shutout baseball. Meeks only gave up 1 hit and struck out 2. His performance helped him earn the save after Williams picked up the win.

Offensively, the Bluefield State had a few different people contribute. Peyton Durham knocked in two runs on the afternoon and scored one himself. The only other RBI of the night went to Drew D'Angelo who scored Justin Bowler, Bowler's second run of the game.

In games 2 and 3, Bluefield States offense really struggled. Game two saw the Big Blues score twice in Game 2, once off a Cole Blocker sacrifice fly and then Justin Bowler scored on a double steal in the 7th. Tanner Muovich got the start for game two and went 5 innings giving up 5 runs on 5 hits. Brandon Chandler came on in relief, pitching the final inning and only allowing 1 run.

The Sunday Matinee game was much of the same as game two for Bluefield State. BSC had 5 hits on the day but were unable to score off them. Defensively, the Big Blues were not very sound, committing 4 errors with lead to 3 runs. Freshman Brandon Wortkoetter got the start and pitched 6.1 innings, giving up 7 runs on 9 hits. Wortkoetter did record two strikeouts, which were the only two for the BSC pitchers in Game 3. Addison Meeks, Carson Thigpen and Romero Cartwright all appeared in a relief effort for the game.

The Big Blues now turn their attention to Carson-Newman for a mid week contest. This game was originally scheduled for last week but was rescheduled due to some bad weather. Live Stats and Video will be provided for the game. Go to go-bstate.com for details.
