Woodstock, VA- The Big Blues played Lincoln University from Pennsylvania in a doubleheader on Sunday. The Blues got 2 excellent pitching performances to sweep the Lions, winning 5-3 in game 1 and 2-1 in game 2.
Bo Williams started on the mound in game 1 and went a complete game against Lincoln's ace. Williams gave up 3 runs on 8 hits and struck out 3 batters in 7 innings of work. He also got some nice defensive help, getting 2 double plays from the middle infield in the game. Sam Harris tallied two RBIs off a single in the 1st and an error in the 7th. Bluefield State was tied with Lincoln going into the 7th but the error during Harris' at bat caused 2 runs to score which gave the Big Blues the 5-3 lead.
Game 2 saw Tanner Muovich pitch an absolute gem. Muovich went another complete game, picking up his 3rd win of the season. Tanner gave up 1 run on 3 hits but had an impressive 5 strikeouts on the night. In the middle of the game he had three 1,2,3 innings with 3 strike outs in those innings. Drew D'Angelo provided the offense for Bluefield State going 2-3 and scoring the only 2 runs for Bluefield State. Chase Chambers and Sam Harris recorded the RBIs for D'Angelo's two runs.
The Big Blues get another double header this Wednesday, this time at Bowen Field against Mars Hill. Games are scheduled to start at 2:00 and 5:00 pm so be sure and check out your Big Blues as they get to play in Bluefield for one of the few times this season.
