BSC Pitching Struggles Early

Jefferson City, TN- The Big Blues traveled to Carson-Newman for a mid week contest against the Screaming Eagles. A sluggish 1st inning absolutely killed any chance the Big Blues had in the game, falling 15-2.

Coach Hunter had to go deep in his bullpen today, as the early pitchers struggled for Bluefield State. TJ Sauers started for the Big Blues, struggling mightily. Romero Cartwright came in to replace him in the 1st inning, and could not stop the bleeding, giving up a combined 9 runs in the 1st inning. Tanner Muovich and Tanner Hill came in at the end of the game and were able to calm things down, not allowing a run in the final 2 innings of work.

Offensively Justin Bowler who went 2-4 with 2 RBIs led BSC. Carson Thigpen also played well; going 1-3 and scoring a run off Bowler's double in the 3rd. Brandon Chandler was the other Bluefield State player to score off of Bowler's double.

Bluefield State now comes home to Bowen Field on Thursday to take on West Virginia Tech in a pivotal USCAA Game. It will also be Senior Night for the Big Blues and Coach Hunter will honor 4 seniors who have been a great influence on this program. Bubba Smith, Sam Harris, Chaz Rutherford and Justin Bowler will all be honored after the game. Due to other events the Athletic Department is hosting on Thursday, the Senior Ceremonies will happen after the game, around 8:00 pm. Please be sure and get there early and stay after to see these seniors in their final home game for Bluefield State College.
