2 Bad Innings Cost Big Blues

Nutter Fort, WV- The Big Blues went on the road as they wind down their 2017 season against Salem International. The Big Blues were in both games but had 1 bad inning in each game which cost them. Final scores for the double header were 5-3 and 10-4.

Tanner Muovich started on the mound for the Big Blues. Muovich pitched well, going the complete game, giving up 5 runs on 10 hits and 4 strikeouts and pitching 4 scoreless innings. In the bottom of the 3rd the Tigers ended up scoring 4 runs which was enough to give SIU the lead for good.

Offensively, the Big Blues were led by Justin Bowler and Logan Wriston. Bowler went 2-3 and scored a run. Wriston was even more impressive going 2-3 and hitting a home run in the 6th. This was Wriston's 2nd home run of the season, 1st since February. But even with Writson's deep shot, the Blues came up short falling 5-3.

Game 2 was very close through 5 innings. Then in the bottom of the 5th and 6th innings Brandon Wortkoetter labored and gave up 5 runs. Chaz Rutherford tried to stop the bleeding but couldn't, giving up 4 more runs for a total of 10 runs in two innings. But some credit needs to be given to the Big Blues as they did not give up scoring 4 runs in the top of the 7th inning in an attempt to mount a comeback. Peyton Durham and Sam Harris started the rally for BSC, each having an RBI. Durham when 2-3 on the evening. TJ Sauers also had a solid night at the plate, going 2-3.

The Big Blues turn around and play West Virginia Tech for another double header on the road tomorrow. Stay tuned for updates on the results of these games.
