  • Coach Price Will Host Inaugural Basketball Camp

    Head Men’s Basketball Coach Derrick Price and his coaching staff are pleased to announce Derrick Price’s Inaugural Basketball Camp July 10-13, 2017. Camp staff will include Head Men’s Basketball Coach Derrick Price, Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach Rodney Kasey and former and current BSC players.

    The Big Blues are pleased to announce the permanent hiring of Interim Head Men’s Basketball Coach Derrick Price. Coach Price has been the Head Coach for the Big Blues for one season after being at rival, Bluefield College for 5 seasons as an Assistant.
  • James Day Named Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Semifinalist

    Diverse: Issues In Higher Education magazine has announced the Top 20 male and female finalists for the 2017 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award. The winners will be profiled in its April 6, 2017 edition. The finalists were chosen from over 1,000 outstanding minority student-athletes nominated by their respective institutions.

    Men’s Basketball Senior Center James Day has been selected to the USCAA Academic All-American list this season.

    The USCAA has announced their 2016-2017 All-American’s for Men’s and Women’s basketball and two of your Big Blues were selected as members of the team. Joshua Windham was named as a 2nd Team All-American this season and Tanasia Blake made the Honorable Mention List.

    The Big Blues were able to end the season on a high note and send the 5 seniors out with a win by a score of 85-79.
  • BSC Honors 5 Seniors in Final Home Game

    The Big Blues played their final home game of the 2016-2017 and honored the 5 seniors for their time with the Men’s Basketball Program. Unfortunately, Alderson Broaddus was able to spoil the party, winning 81-75.
  • Men Roll Past Ohio Valley

    The Big Blues went on the road to face Ohio Valley for the second time this season. This was one of the best games of the season for BSC as the team played a complete game. BSC led from the 1st whistle and never looked back, rolling 96-67.

    The Big Blues hosted their 2nd to last home game of the 2016-2017 season against fellow NCAA Independent Salem International. This game was a back and forth affair with the Big Blues holding on to a 72-69 victory!

    The Big Blues came out in the 1st half only scoring 28 points. Things looked better in the 2nd, but BSC could not overcome the 1st half deficit and lost 96-68.

    In the second half the Big Blues had some tired legs and the Golden Bears came from behind and ran away with the game, winning 82-61.
  • Big Blues Win Streak Halted at Three

    The Big Blues went on the road after a two game home stand in a rematch from earlier this season against the Malone Pioneers. This rematch was not as close as the first time these two played in Bluefield as Malone snapped the Blues’ three game win streak with an 85-66 victory.

  • Big Blues Offense Shines in Win over Salem

    Big Blues offense comes alive as the team scores 90 points in a 90-78 victory over the Tigers of Salem International. This is the second win of the season for Bluefield State and comes off their highest scoring total of the season.

    The Big Blues played their second game over the winter holidays against the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, IN. Things were not going Bluefield State’s was from the very get-go as the Screaming Eagles over powered the Big Blues. BSC only mustered 24 points in the 1st half and ended up falling 122-59.

    Big Blues returned from the holiday’s and faced off against a very tough Pfeiffer squad. Bluefield State could not overcome the intense pressure the Falcons put on the team and fell 112-79.

    The Big Blues traveled to Bluefield’s Wade Center last week to help the Center prepare for an incoming mission group. The Men's basketball team moved furniture and created bunk beds for an incoming mission trip.

  • Men Lose Both in Manchin Classic

    Men’s basketball drops both in Manchin Classic hosted by Salem International this weekend. This was a very tough tournament for the men as they played a solid University of Charleston squad and then turned right around and played West Virginia State. The men lost to Charleston 81-61 and then lost to West Virginia State 82-72.
  • Big Blues Lose Heart-breaker at Home

    The Big Blues lose to start December in heartbreaking fashion to Malone University. Credit is due to the Pioneers who never gave in after being down by double digits early. Malone came back from behind and squeezed out a 3-point victory over the Big Blues 70-67.
  • Big Blues Pick Up 1st Win of Season Over Tuskegee

    The Big Blues picked up their first win of the season this weekend in the Florida Tech Thanksgiving Tournament. After falling to host’s Florida Tech in the opening game Friday, the Big Blues bounced back and played an excellent game, defeating Tuskegee Saturday by a final score of 75-70.
  • Bluefield State Falls to Rival Concord

    The Big Blues were back in action again today against Mercer County Rival Concord University. This was a quick turnaround for the team as they just finished a tournament in Florida on Saturday. Even with the lack of rest Bluefield State fought admiralty but ended up losing 71-59.
  • Big Blues Fall to Defending CIAA Champions

    The Big Blues went on the road this Tuesday and took on the defending CIAA Champions, Virginia State University Trojans. This was a very tough road test for the Big Blues, especially early in the season. Unfortunately, the team could not overcome the road obstacles and fell to the Trojans 74-49.
  • BSC Lose Both in JCSU Classic

    he Big Blues go 0-2 in the JCSU Classic hosted by Johnson C. Smith University. Bluefield State played the host’s Friday night and were in the game early but faded toward the end, losing 85-58. Saturday saw the Big Blues face off against Livingstone and the Blues lost 87-65.
  • Battle of the Bluefields Belongs to Bluefield College

    The Men were back in action today in the annual rivalry game against Bluefield College. This year’s version of The Battle of the Bluefields had an even bigger meaning, as Head Coach Derrick Price was a member of the Rams Staff for the past 5 seasons. Unfortunately Coach Price and the Big Blues could not get the win and fell to the Rams 90-73.
  • Big Blues Fall in Season Opener

    The Big Blues officially opened up their season today against the University of the Cumberlands. The Big Blues came out strong and led the Patriots in the first half but ultimately were over taken and defeated 78-68.
