Bluefield, VA- The Men were back in action today in the annual rivalry game against Bluefield College. This year's version of The Battle of the Bluefields had an even bigger meaning, as Head Coach Derrick Price was a member of the Rams Staff for the past 5 seasons. Unfortunately Coach Price and the Big Blues could not get the win and fell to the Rams 90-73.
Overall Bluefield State shot well from the floor, going 25-71 for 36%. From behind the arc, BSC was down in percentage only shooting 29% (7-24). But the big story is how Bluefield State could not stop Bluefield College. The Rams shot the ball extremely well going 30-59 from the field and going 50% from 3-point land. Add on 21 of 30 from the charity stripe, and you have a recipe for a victory in any game. Bluefield College was led by Cordaris Townes who scored 30 and added 18 rebounds for a double-double. Townes also had 4 blocks in an overall impressive showing.
Julian Hernandez who came off the bench and scored 16 led Bluefield State for the night. Marcus Richardson, Greg Purnell, Jamal McCoy and Joshua Windham joined Hernandez in scoring double digit points for the game. Windham also led the team in rebounds with 11, giving him a double-double for the first time this season.
