Bluefield, WV- The Big Blues took on West Virginia Wesleyan in their last game before the winter holidays. The Big Blues were in it at the end but came up short losing 64-60.
Leading scorers for the Big Blues once again came from seniors Julian Hernandez and Joshua Windham. Windham led the team with 19 points and 9 boards for the game. Hernandez was right behind Windham shooting 50% (7-14) and scoring 16 points. The Achilles heel for the Big Blues was once again the lack of foul shots the team shot. The Blues were only able to get to the line twice while the Bobcats got to the line 10 times, converting 7 of them.
The Bobcats had 3 players in double figures. Fred Brondsted led the team with 19 points. The Big Blues had trouble-guarding Brondsted as he was a force inside but also could step out on the perimeter, going 4-6 from downtown.
The Big Blues had an early led over the Bobcats and really were moving the ball well. But then West Virginia Wesleyan came back and had the lead at halftime. The Bobcats continued to extend their lead, going up by 15 early in the 2nd half. But credit needs to be given to Coach Price as he switched to a 2-3 zone and the Bobcats could not find an answer. This allowed BSc to crawl back into the game and have it down to 1 possession late. But the Bobcats made some late free throws and sealed the 64-60 victory over the Big Blues.
Bluefield State is off for a week but hosts Pfeiffer on December 30th at 4:00 pm. Tickets will once again be $5.00 so come out and support your Big Blues.
