Bluefield, WV- The Big Blues come back from behind to beat a very tough Tusculum Pioneers team. BSC trailed by 3 at halftime and saw the lead grow to as much as 14 in the second half. It looked like another game to slip through the hands of Coach Price and his boys but credit to the Big Blues; they fought back and won 81-77.
The Pioneers had a very effective offense and at the end of the game had 5 players in double digits. Kendall Patterson who had 16 on the night led Tusculum. Off the bench, Zach Hartle provided a nice spark scoring 15. The Pioneers also had an inside presence that the Big Blues had trouble dealing with most of the night. Chase Mounce had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Even with all the offense Tusculum provided, Bluefield State matched them point for point. Julian Hernandez and Joshua Windham once again led the Big Blues. Windham had 26 on the night and hit two clutch free throws at the end to put the Big Blues up by 4 to seal the game. Hernandez had 25 points and was a major reason the Big Blues rallied to come back. He hit 3 three's in 5 possessions for Bluefield State which turned things around. Before his hot streak behind the arc, the Big Blues were only shooting 25% from deep. However, at the end of the night they went 7-19 (37%) from downtown. The team also shot 48% from the floor and were much better from the line than earlier this week, going 8-13. Joseph Adeyemo was the spark off the bench for the Big Blues tonight, finishing with 13 points and 8 rebounds.
The Big Blues now have a tough road test against Malone on Saturday the 28th. This is a rematch from earlier this season when BSC fell at home to the Pioneers. Check back for live stats and video on our website at go-bstate.com
