Vienna, WV- The Big Blues went on the road to face Ohio Valley for the second time this season. This was one of the best games of the season for BSC as the team played a complete game. BSC led from the 1st whistle and never looked back, rolling 96-67.
The Big Blues had 4 starters in double digits and 3 of those players scored at least 20. Freshman Greg Purnell and Senior Joshua Windham both ended the game with 20 points. Purnell added 3 more steals to his season total, and has now set the Bluefield State single season record with 49 steals in a single season, over taking Joshua Windham's record of 48 set in the 2015-2016 season.
But the star of the night was Marcus Richardson. Richardson was on fire and only missed two shots all night. He went 10-12 from the floor, 2-3 from downtown. Richardson was also perfect from the line, going 2-2 to give him a season high 24 points.
Defensively, the matchup zone that Coach Price runs caused a lot of problems for Ohio Valley. The Fighting Scots, normally a decent 3-point shooting team, were held to 20% from downtown. Bluefield State also forced Ohio Valley into 21 turnovers and capitalized on those turnovers, scoring 25 points off them.
Up next for the Big Blues is a rematch against Alderson-Broaddus, a team that defeated Bluefield State easily in the 1st matchup, 96-88. However, Coach Price has gotten his team regrouped and will look to get a win in the last home game of the season. It will be Senior Night at the Ned Shott Gymnasium so come out on February 21st as we honor James Day, Julian Hernandez, Jamal McCoy, Marcus Richardson and Joshua Windham as they take the court the final time in the Ned Shott Gymnasium. Tip off will be at 6:00 pm with the Senior Ceremonies taking place before hand so get here early!
