Grafton, WV- The Big Blues continued their Fall Season with a trip up to Grafton, WV to play in the Wally Edgell WV DII Collegiate Championship hosted by Davis & Elkins College and the Tygart Lake Golf Course. This looked like an old WIAC Conference tournament as most of the DII West Virginia Schools were in attendance (and 1 NAIA School). The conditions of the course really affected the Big Blues who shot a 944 (315, 312, 317) over the 3 rounds and finished 6th of 8 teams.
Round 1 saw an impressive performance by Senior Kirk Collins who shot a 74 (+4) and was only 3 strokes off the leader who shot a 71. JT Lester also was in a place to make a move up to the podium after Round 1, posting a 76 (+6). Round 2 was a little different for the team as they started to get used to the course and started picking their spots on the green. This was the best round for the team shooting 312 overall. After finishing the 1st 2 rounds Bluefield State ended in 6th.
The final round saw some wiry legs on the course as the team struggled to keep pace. But Karson Terry was a man of consistency and shot a 77 in the final round, matching his round 2 score which was 1 stroke better than his round 1 score. With his consistent play, the team secured 6th place for the weekend.
Next Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday the Big Blues will have another home tournament at Tazewell Country Club against Davis & Elkins and West Virginia Tech. The practice round will be Monday with 18 holes being played on Tuesday and 18 more on Wednesday. Check back for updates on the scores from each round.
