GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The weekend of 16th and 17th was the first tournament for the Bluefield State men's golf team. They played at the Link Hills Golf and Country Club in Greeneville, Tennessee. The team left Friday morning to get to the practice round and played the two days of the weekend.
The Big Blues came in the 10th place beating Concord by 3 strokes. This was the first tournament for the men's golf team on this season. Unfortunately, the first two tournaments couldn't be played because of the bad weather conditions.
The tournament was played with lift clean and place (only fairway), since the course was not in the best conditions. The second day was the warmest, but the hardest because of the flag positions.
Walters State's Alex Hodge won the Tusculum Invitational, posting a two-day score of 66-72=138 (-4) and win by five shots over runner-up Jeffery Perez of Tusculum who carded 71-72=143.
The Big Blues had a score of 331 the first day and 316 the second day, with a total of 647 on two rounds (+79). Definitely a good come back for the Big Blues on the second day, which improved their position. The winning team was Tusculum with a total of 583 (+15) for the weekend. Not the best start for our team, but they are looking forward to improving in the next tournaments.
In the individual results, the new transfer golf player Franco Di Benedetto from Argentina (Cordoba) had a round of 74 and 75 with a total of 149 (+7), who finished in the 9th position with a good start for his first tournament.
The sophomore Cristian Galdeano, also from Argentina, had a good tournament with rounds of 82 and 73 with a total of 155 (+13). He finished in the 24th place.
Next up the Big Blues will travel to Goldsboro, NC to compete in the University of Mount Olive Spring Invitational April 1st-2nd.
