Erie, PA- The men's tennis team traveled to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Region Tennis Championships in Erie, PA September 23-25. 2 doubles teams from Bluefield State made their way through a draw of 16 top teams in the region and played each other in the finals. Ignacio Pulido and Platon Gud edged out fellow teammates Anthony Braem and Alex Rudenco 3-6, 7-6, 10-6 to qualify for the ITA National tournament to be held in Surprise, AZ, October 13-16. They are 1 of 8 teams to qualify for this tournament from around the country.
Alex Rudenco also had a very impressive singles showing in the tournament. He made it all the way to the finals as a 7th seed. His impressive run ended in the finals as he lost to the #1 overall seed in the tournament.
To have 2 teams in the ITA Regional Finals is a very impressive accomplishment for the Big Blues. They will look to take this momentum into their NCAA Season in the Spring and hopefully make it back to the NCAA Tournament at the end of the year.
