Tennis Wins 78th Straight Regional Match

Blacksburg, VA- Men's tennis dominates against as they beat Shepherd University 9-0. Coach Belt and the Big Blues have now won 78 straight Regional Matches, dating back to when Bluefield State was in the WVIAC.

Platon Gud and Luca Ockernahl were once again at the #1 doubles position and showed why Coach Belt has put them in that slot. Gud & Ockernahl won easily 8-0 over their Shepherd opponents.

On the singles side of the match, Bluefield State was not tested very much, winning each individual match in 2 sets. Ignacio Pulido was in a close competition early, winning the first set 6-4. He then turned it on in the second, winning 6-0. Guillermo Cortes-Lopez also had an impressive victory at the #6 singles, beating his opponent 6-0, 6-0.

Bluefield State now turns their attention to #37 Ranked Southern Indiana. While this is a Non-Region Competition for Bluefield State, it will be an excellent test for the Big Blues against a ranked opponent. The match is scheduled to start at 1:00 pm Thursday February 23rd. Weather permitting, the match will be played at the Bluefield City Courts.
