Men's Tennis Faces Top 50 Opponent in USI

Bluefield, WV- The Big Blues men's tennis have their 1st real test of the 2017 season with a match-up against 31st ranked Southern Indiana. Bluefield State is currently ranked 41st in the Oracle-ITA Division II Men's Tennis poll. This critical matchup will come just a few days before the next rankings are released.

The Big Blues have gotten an excellent performance out of Platon Gud and Anthony Braem this season. Gud has only lost once this season verus the University of Charleston #1 singles player. Braem has not lost in the 3 matches he has been in. For doubles, Platon Gud has been paired with freshman standout Luca Ockernal. These two have not lost together and have only dropped 4 games in their 3 matches. Anthony Braem has been paired with Alexandr Rudenco twice this season and they have won both times without dropping a game.

Southern Indiana currently posts a 4-3 record but all three of their loses have come to NCAA DI opponents. Their current three match win streak is against NCAA DII opponents, handling each one with ease, only dropping 1 game in those 3 matches. Denis Davydov who is the #1 singles leads the Screaming Eagles. In addition, Aaron Barris and Samuiel Kiladejo proved an added boost in doubles competitions, as the pair have not lost a doubles match since playing DII competition this season.
