Bluefield, WV- The Big Blues once again roll over Regional competition, beating Shaw University 5-0. This match lasted 2 days as the match was suspended on April 4th due to rain and finished the next day.
Coach Belt typically likes to play all 9 matches to get everyone a little playing time but due to weather, the coaches decided to stop the match after a team won 5 matches. Bluefield State took an early lead sweeping the 3 doubles contests. At the doubles 1 spot, Platon Gud and Giorgi Datashvili had their hands full against Shaw's #1, but ended up winning 2 games by breaking the Bears' serve to seal a 8-6 victory.
At this point Bluefield State only had to win 2 singles matches to clinch the overall competition. Alexandr Rudenco took care of business easily, winning 6-1, 6-2 to get the 4th point. Then Lorenzo Panariti finished Shaw off winning 6-1, 6-0. Panariti got one of his only starts this season and really excellent. His clinching victory helped Bluefield State win their 82nd straight Regional contest.
The men now travel to King University in Tennessee Friday for a non-regional competition. They then continue their road trip with a match against Tusculum College.
