Bluefield State makes 6th Straight Atlantic Regional
#1 Big Blues have been selected to host the Atlantic Regional for the 6th straight year
Bluefield, WV- The Big Blues Men's Program has done it again. For the 6th straight year they have made the Atlantic Regionals as the #1 seed. This year the Big Blues will play the winner of #4 Edinboro and #5 Mercyhurst out of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. The Fighting Scots and Lakers will play Saturday April 29th and your Big Blues will take on the winner on Sunday. Matches both days will begin at 1:00 pm and admission to the Bluefield City Courts is free.
On Sunday, Bluefield State Student Life will be having a cookout at the City Courts to celebrate the end of the Spring Semester. The burgers and hotdogs will be provided for free, so we hope to see all out in attendance!
Things to watch:
#4 Edinboro posts an impressive 15-6 record with a perfect conference regular season. Heading into the conference tournament, Edinboro was on a 5-match win streak including a 5-4 victory over Mercyhurst to seal the PSAC Regular Season Title. Each individual match was highly contested but Vitor Albanese and Daniel Fernandez had crucial set 3 victories to help the Fighting Scots seal the victory.
#5 Mercyhurst got its revenge on Edinboro in the PSAC Tournament Finals. Winning the PSAC gave the Lakers the Automatic Bid to the NCAA Tournament this season. The Lakers posted a 14-8 overall record this season on route to the programs 1st ever PSAC Championship. They take on Edinboro on Saturday in what will surely be a highly contested grudge match at 1:00 pm.
The #1 seeded Big Blues (14-3) will take on the winner of Edinboro and Mercyhurst on Sunday. After having their 83 Regional Match win streak snapped earlier this year BSC will have something to prove to show they are still the team to beat in the Atlantic Region. The team will look to the leadership of Platon Gud, Anthony Braem and Alexandr Rudenco to potentially win the school's 6th straight Atlantic Regional Title. The Big Blues last played a tune up match against Bluefield College and won handily 5-1.
The winner of the Atlantic Regional Tournament will then travel to just north of Orlando for the rest of the NCAA Tournament May 9th-12th.
