The Big Blues finally do not have an Interim Coach left on staff with the official hiring of Head Women’s Volleyball and Softball Coach Megan Dillion. Coach Dillion has served as the Interim Head Coach for both sports this past academic year.
BSC’s season came to a close today with a double header against Salem International. Last time the Big Blues faced the Tigers, the Tigers pitching dominated, as they threw a perfect game in game one. This series, the Blues were able to put some balls in play but ultimately came up short, 14-4 & 18-3.
The ladies were able to play at home for the 2nd time this season against fellow HBCU Kentucky State. After performing so well offensively in their road trip through Virginia earlier in the week, the team struggled mightily, only scoring 1 run in the 2 games.
The Big Blues finished their road trip to the Richmond, VA area with a double header against Virginia State. BSC is starting to put the ball in play more but ultimately fell to the Trojans 7-2 and 18-6.
Coach Dillion and the Big Blues finally were back on the diamond after being off for 10 days due to cancellations and spring break. The lay-off did not do the team any favors as Coach Dillion’s Alma Mater won 20-0 & 16-0 in the double header.
The Big Blues were back on the diamond again for a double header against Lincoln Memorial. The Railsplitters took advantage of critical defensive mistakes by the Big Blues and won both games by a combined score of 27-0.
Bluefield State Softball was back in action this weekend in the Shaw Bear Challenge, playing 5 games in 3 days. The Big Blues are still trying to work through so early season jitters and fell in each game of the weekend.
Softball had their first installment of the Battle of Bluefield’s against Bluefield College. This was Coach Dillion’s 1st contest against Bluefield College since being the assistant coach last season at Bluefield College. Bluefield College really took it to the Big Blues, winning 23-0 and 18-2 both games in 5 innings.
