Softball Season Preview

Bluefield, WV- The Big Blues are excited for their 2017 season to get started under first year Coach Megan Dillion. Coach Dillion looks to improve on the 3-25 record the Big Blues posted last year. Coach Dillion will also have the assistance of Rosanne De Vries who exhausted her eligibility last season and was hired on to be the Assistant Coach this season.

The Big Blues season starts mostly on the road in February and March. However, Bluefield State does have a close "road" match up early in the season when they take on Bluefield College on February 19th. These games will be played at Graham Rec Park in Bluefield, VA. After the double header against Bluefield College, BSC then goes and plays in the Shaw Bear Challenge. This Challenge, hosted by Shaw University, will pit the Big Blues against five different teams in three days. The Big Blues will see some excellent competition that weekend and it will be a good indication of where BSC is for the season. On the weekend of April 4th, BSC hosts Bluefield College in the second Battle of the Bluefield's of the season. The Big Blues will then end the season May 5th hosting USCAA foe, Penn State Allegheny.

The Big Blues will have many new faces this season, only having three returners from last year's team. In the circle, the Big Blues will hand the reigns over to Emily Day to lead Bluefield State. Senior leadership this season will provided by Shonte Cargill who will look to guide this very young squad. On the defensive side, Lyndsay Hatfield returns to give BSC a boost in the infield. Newcomer to the 2017 roster, Ashley Rasnake, will also be an excellent addition to the infield as the starting shortstop.

The Big Blues will be playing all of their home games at a different location from last season. This season they will play their home games at the Virginia Little League Fields in Bluefield, VA. These fields are below where Bluefield College plays their home games. Coach Dillion is exited to rebuild the relationship with the park and is looking forward to playing her home games there this season.
