Harrogate, TN- The Big Blues were back on the diamond again for a double header against Lincoln Memorial. The Railsplitters took advantage of critical defensive mistakes by the Big Blues and won both games by a combined score of 27-0.
Game 1 saw Emily Day take to the center circle. Day went the full game, giving up 19 runs on 13 hits. Bluefield State's defense was not giving Day any support as only 3 of the 19 runs were earned. As a team, the Big Blues committed 7 errors and multiple passed balls which led to 16 runs.
Offensively in Game 1, BSC managed 3 hits off the LMU Ace Brianna Taylor. The 1st inning looked promising for the Big Blues as Shonte Cargill walked and Ashley Rasnake singled to give BSC runners on 1st and 2nd with no one out. Cargill was able to get to 3rd but the Big Blues were unable to drive her home. Shonte Cargill got on base again in the 3rd but BSC was unable to advance her. Marceda Lee got the final hit in game 1 in the top of the 5th with a single to right field.
Behind strong pitching and poor defense, the Railsplitters were able to cruise to a 19-0 victory.
Game 2 saw another strong pitching performance by LMU, this time by Justice Smith. She went a complete game giving up only 1 hit and had 8 strikeouts.
Bluefield State's lone hit came at the beginning of the 2nd inning. Lyndsay Hatfield had a bunt single. Unfortunately Casey Spencer, Tyann Thomas and Lauryn Hatfield all had opportunities to advance Lyndsay but were unable to make contact to move her up. The Railsplitters finished the game much like the 1st, with an 8-0 victory.
