Richmond, VA- The Big Blues took on Virginia Union this afternoon and picked up their 1st win of the season after splitting the series. BSC took game 1 6-4. In game 2 the tides turned and Bluefield State lost 10-2.
Lyndsay Hatfield had herself a game in game 1. Hatfield started the scoring off for the Big Blues in the 1st inning, scoring Shonte Cargill off a double to center field. Then in the 5th inning came the moment of game 1. Hatfield crushed a ball to left field, hitting her 1st dinger of her college career. Emily Day was also on base from a single earlier in the inning. This two run shot was part of Lyndsay Hatfield's 3 RBI game 1. Ashley Rasnake also contributed to the 6-4 victory over Virginia Union, getting an RBI and scoring twice herself.
Game 2 was not as good as game 1 for the Big Blues. The Ladies only 2 runs came in the 5th inning when Shonte Cargill rocketed a double down the right field line, scoring Lauryn Hatfield and Casey Spencer. But the Big Blues were in too big of a hole after committing 5 errors in the game to come back and ultimately fell 10-2.
BSC has a busy week ahead of them, as they take on Virginia State tomorrow. They then come home Tuesday to take on Ohio Valley and Kentucky State Thursday. The 4 home games are at 1:00 & 3:00 and will be played at the Graham Little League Park.
