Ettrick, VA- The Big Blues finished their road trip to the Richmond, VA area with a double header against Virginia State. BSC is starting to put the ball in play more but ultimately fell to the Trojans 7-2 and 18-6.
Emily Day started in the circle for Bluefield State, giving up 7 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits and recorded 5 strikeouts in the game. Bluefield State's 2 runs came in the top of the 4th inning when Casey Spencer doubled to right field scoring Lyndsay Hatfield and Ashley Rasnake. The Big Blues then had an opportunity in the 5th inning to take the lead when they had the bases loaded with only 1 out. But the Trojans pitcher came through in the clutch striking out BSC's final 2 batters of the inning to maintain the 3-2 lead at the time. VSU was able to tack on 4 more runs in the bottom half of the 4th to finish the game 7-2.
In game 2 the Big Blues started strong but had a rough 3rd inning which blew the game open. Casey Spencer once against had a RBI in the 1st inning with a double, which scored Ashley Rasnake. Emily Day had 3 RBIs on the afternoon, 2 coming in the 3rd and the final one coming in the 5th.
Bluefield State will be back in action on Thursday March 30th for their 1st home game in over a month against Kentucky State. The double header will be at 1:00 pm & 3:00 pm at the Bluefield Little League Park so come out and support your Big Blues!
