Bluefield, VA- The ladies were able to play at home for the 2nd time this season against fellow HBCU Kentucky State. After performing so well offensively in their road trip through Virginia earlier in the week, the team struggled mightily, only scoring 1 run in the 2 games. The Thorobreds won 13-1 and 21-0 to take the double header.
Game 1's bright spot came in the bottom of the 4th inning when Lyndsay Hatfield, who has been fantastic at the play in the past week, crushed her second dinger of the season to deep center field. Her 2 dingers alone tie the total amount of HR's BSC had last season. Bluefield State was able to get baserunners in the game, stranding 5. Ashley Rasnake also provided a spark at the lead off spot. On the very 1st pitch of the game Rasnake hit a shot to the fence to get some momentum going for BSC. Unfortunately, the Big Blues could not bring her home after the bright start.
Game 2 did not get any better for Bluefield State. Kentucky State held the Blues to 3 hits and 8 strikeouts. The Blues were close to scoring in the 3rd inning when Tanasia Blake started things off with a walk. Blake advanced to 3rd on a single by Shonte Cargill. But the Thorobreds made a good defensive stand turning a double play to end the innings and get out of the jam.
The Big Blues will be back at home on Tuesday April 4th against Bluefield College. This will be the 2nd double header of the season for these two teams as the Big Blues will look to even the Battle of the Bluefield series. Game times are at 1:00 and 3:00.
