Bluefield, VA- BSC's season came to a close today with a double header against Salem International. Last time the Big Blues faced the Tigers, the Tigers pitching dominated, as they threw a perfect game in game one. This series, the Blues were able to put some balls in play but ultimately came up short, 14-4 & 18-3.
Kayla Lynch, who pitched the perfect game against BSC in the 1st meeting did not have as easy of a time, as Lyndsay Hatfield was able to get a 2 run dinger in the 1st inning, her 3rd of the season. The Big Blues added another run in the 4th with an RBI ground out by Marceda Lee. The Blues had the bases loaded in the 7th inning thanks to a base hit by Chloe Layne. Unfortunately, the Big Blues could not take advantage, as Chloe Layne was the only 1 to score in the inning off a throwing error by Salem's shortstop.
In between games, the Big Blues honored the only 2 seniors on the team with a nice ceremony. Senior's Tanasia Blake and Tyann Thomas played their final softball games today. Coach Dillion could not thank them enough for their hard work and dedication during the season. Blake reached base in each game, drawing walks. Thomas had an excellent game 2 going 2 for 2 with a double.
Game 2 saw Salem pull out to a big lead early, scoring 8 runs in the 2nd inning and 7 runs in the 3rd. Casey Spencer provided the offense for the Blues, going 2-3 with 2 doubles and an RBI.
Coach Dillion's 2017 comes to a close on a team that improved significantly throughout the year. Bluefield State has a ton of upside this next season, only graduating 2 players on this year's team.
