Pikeville, KY- The ladies were back in action for the first time in 2017. Things did not start well for the Big Blues in 2017 as they were sent home 110-44 by Pikeville. Pikeville was one of the harder teams the Big Blues have faced all season as Pikeville is ranked 24th in NAIA Division I.
BSC's struggled early which helped Pikeville gain a big lead. After the 1st quarter, Bluefield State had 7 points and was not shooting the ball efficiently. But starting in the 2nd quarter, the women played a lot better and started making shots. The offense was led by Tanasia Blake who went 6-13 and 14 points. Blake also added 5 rebounds and 5 steals on defense. The other hot hand for the Big Blues was Lakin Keene. Keene went 4-6 with 2 3's for the night.
But Pikeville out matched Bluefield State. The Bears had 4 players in double digit scoring and were led by Aundrea Matchen who came off the bench and scored 18. Devin Conley also had a nice game with 17 points and 5 rebounds for UPike.
The Big Blues are off until the 10th when they will travel to Philippi, WV to face an old WVIAC foe in Alderson Broaddus. The Battlers are currently 2-8. There will be live stats and video available for the game. Check back on go-bstate.com for links to these features.
