Elkins, WV- The women's basketball team was back in action last night to take on Davis & Elkins in a rematch from earlier this season. This game was really the tail of two halves for the ladies as they came out really flat in the 1st half but turned it around in the second, having one of their best shooting performances of the season. Unfortunately, the first half deficit was just far too great and the Big Blues lost 104-64.
The sharp shooters of D&E really had a solid 1st half with Stephanie Whooten and Sydney Turner combining for 30 points each hitting 5 threes a piece. This helped build the lead that the Senators used to hold on at the end of the game.
Bluefield State's offense really came around in the 2nd half, producing the high scoring 2 quarters of the season. Lyndsay Hatfield and Rosalie Pozo were on fire, each scoring 21 points for the game. Hatfield went 9-14 with 3 threes. Pozo matched her performance, going 7-15 from the field and making 5 of her 6 free throws. Tanasia Blake was also a double-digit scorer, getting 15. Blake also had 15 rebounds to get another double-double this season.
The Big Blues have another long break before they take on Ohio Valley University on Monday, January 23rd at 6:00 pm. This will be the 1st game of a double header, with the men taking on Tusculum after the women finish.
