Bluefield, WV- The ladies had a chance tonight when they took on Ohio Valley in Ned's Den for the 1st time this season. The Big Blues led at half time but could not fight off the comeback by the Fighting Scots who won, 68-56.
The 1st quarter of the game was a flurry of points for both teams and was tied 17-17. In the 2nd quarter, the Big Blues clamped down on defense causing turnovers and holding Ohio Valley to just 10 points. The Big Blues scored 13 and took a 3-point lead into halftime. Then in the 3rd quarter, the Big Blues got a little stagnant. Ohio Valley was able to beat BSC's defense and regain the lead. In the 4th it was much of the same. Bluefield State was never out of the game but had some costly turnovers and empty possessions down the stretch, which led to the 12-point loss.
Offensively the Big Blues had 3 players in double digits. Tanasia Blake and LJ Doughty both had 10 points. But the best shooting performance came from Chloe Layne who was 4-5 from the floor and 3-4 from 3-point land. Layne would have had a perfect night shooting if not for a last second shot to end the game. Chloe also had 3 rebounds and 1 assist on the night.
The Big Blues do not have much rest as they turn around and play Cedarville on Wednesday at 6:00. Doors will open at 5:00 and tickets will be $5.00.
