Bluefield, WV- The Big Blues came out today and had a very strong 1st half against Cedarville. But, the shooting of the Yellow Jackets in the second half help them lead a charge to top the Bluefield State 69-44.
In the first half, the game was very close with both teams battling back and forth. Cedarville had a relatively poor 1st half shooting, only shooting 26%. The Big Blues were significantly better, shooting 38%. BSC's shooting performance helped the team come back from being 6 down in the 1st quarter to actually taking the lead on the final play of the 1st half when Chloe Layne hit one from way downtown.
Credit to Cedarville as they came out in the 2nd half and turned around their shooting performance. Baylee Bennett who had 28 points led the Yellow Jackets. On the night Bennett went 9-15 with 8 three's.
Senior Tanasia Blake once again led BSC. Blake had 20 points on a 6-10 shooting night. She also was 1 rebound away from a double-double. Blake also had 3 blokes including one on Cedarville's 1st offensive possession where she sent the ball into the 3rd row.
Lauryn Hatfield was the spark off the bench tonight for BSC. Hatfield went 4-8 and had 9 points. She also added 2 rebounds and 2 assists on her night's performance.
The Big Blues have a busy back end of the weekend coming up. The ladies host Washington Adventist on Sunday at 4:00 then head up to Athens, WV to take on Mercer County rival Concord University.
