Bluefield, WV- The Big Blues pick up their 1st win of the season with a gritty performance against the Washington Adventist Shock today in the Ned Shott Gymnasium. The ladies led early and held on to the lead at the end, winning 63-57.
The Big Blues capitalized on opportunities offensively and defensively. BSC was able to force 18 turnover and 8 steals against the Shock. Tanasia Blake once again was unstoppable, getting another double-double this season. Blake had 17 points and 19 rebounds, 13 of those coming on the defensive end of the floor. Chloe Layne also had another impressive shooting night going 5-6, 4-5 from downtown. Layne ended the game with 14 points. Off the bench, Hannah O'Quinn gave the Bluefield State's offense another spark, scoring 10 points and having 3 offensive boards.
The Big Blues were up big in the 4th quarter but Washington Adventist started crawling back into the game. But some clutch free throws by Maggie Tien secured the victory for Bluefield State. The ladies travel to Mercer County Rival Concord tomorrow at 6:00 pm. The do not play at home until February 7th when they take on Alderson-Broaddus.
