Bluefield, WV- The ladies faced off against USCAA opponent West Virginia Tech. Bluefield State kept things tight until the end of the 1st half. The lead grew to 20 in the 3rd quarter but BSC battled back and at the end were only down 15, losing 65-50.
The Big Blues were very much in the game as their defense in the paint was very strong, holding the Golden Bears to 32%. But Bluefield State struggled offensively, shooting 15-59 and only connecting from downtown three times. Bluefield State was able to get to the line, especially in the 4th quarter to cut into the lead. BSC made 17 of their 24 attempts.
The walking double-double, Tanasia Blake had another stand out game, scoring a season high 22 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. Blake, who was 3rd in the USCAA in rebounds per game, surely added to her average of 11.3 rebounds per game with her performance tonight. Tanasia Blake also had 7 steals on the night and had multiple face break lay-ups. Her skills in the paint helped BSC score 24 points to WV Tech's 11 inside the paint.
Rosalie Pozo also had a solid night for Bluefield State, scoring 10 points coming off the bench. Pozo was a factor driving the ball and drawing fouls on the WV Tech defense. She went to the line 7 times and converted 6 of the free throws.
Bluefield State now goes on the road for a swing trip against Malone University and Ursuline University on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
