Bluefield, WV- The Big Blues hosted Warren Wilson for their 2nd to last home game of the season. In a special ceremony at half time, the Women's Basketball Program honored all the Alumni for the 2nd Annual Alumni Day. Unfortunately the ceremony was spoiled by a 3 pointer made by the Owls with 1.1 seconds left to win the game, 81-80.
Bluefield State had one of the most complete games this season, unfortunately the Big Blues were beaten on a last second shot by #3 Amber Godfrey of Warren Wilson. The Big Blues went 25-59 from the floor for the game and 10-20 from three. The ladies added another 20 free throws in one of their highest scoring performances of the season. Four players for the game were in double figures for BSC and two players had double-doubles.
Tanasia Blake had another outstanding game going 8-16 with 20 points. Blake once again dominated the boards, grabbing 20 rebounds. Lyndsay Hatfield was right behind Blake, scoring 19 points and grabbing 14 boards. Coming off the bench, Maggie Tien, Bria Gates and Sarah Dawson all had impressive games. Tien scored 16 points going 5-6 from downtown and Gates scored 11, going 3-4 from deep. Dawson provided a huge momentum shift going into half time, grabbing an offensive and defensive rebound to help the Big Blues take a 4-point lead into the half.
Unfortunately, the Big Blues saw some impressive shooting by Warren Wilson. #10 Danasia Dumas went 13-28 with 9 3's to score 39 points for the Owls. #32 Jada McCrimmon scored 24 points to supplement the excellent shooting night by Dumas. But the killer 3 came with 1.1 seconds on the clock by #3 Amber Godfrey. Godfrey's shot put the Owls up 1 and the Big Blues were unable to get a last second opportunity.
BSC has one more game this season, tomorrow night at 6:00 pm vs Salem International. The lone Senior on the squad, Tanasia Blake will be honored for her incredible career at Bluefield State College before the game, so be sure and get here early.
