March is a time of year that all basketball teams want to see their season extend in to. It takes months of preparation, early morning work-outs, those hard-conditioning practices, and a lot of blood, sweat, and tears. However, it is all worth it in the end if you get invited to the Big Dance. On Tuesday, both the women's and men's basketball teams found out that they were indeed invited to the dance. The dance they were invited to is the USCAA National Tournament.
The Lady Blues will be making their first appearance at the USCAA National Tournament after they were awarded the 5th seed. They will play next Thursday, March 7th, versus Florida National University (4th seed) at 2:00 p.m. They shared just two common opponents during the regular season with each team finishing with an unblemished record against those teams.
The Men's team will be making a return trip to USCAA National Tournament after making it last year as well. They earned the 7th seed overall and will also play next Thursday, March 7th. They will be taking on the second seed from Stratford University. The two teams combined to play three common opponents during the regular season with the Big Blues going 5-0 against those teams, while Stratford finished 5-1.
Both Bluefield State's teams will travel to Lamont Furnace, PA, next week and will take part in the USCAA National Tournament Banquet, where post season awards will be announced, as well as taking part in some skills challenges as part of the Tournament festivities.
All National Tournament games will be streamed live and you will be able to find those links on the men's and women's season schedule on this website or by going to the USCAA website.
