Women's Basketball Announces Recruiting Class

Head coach Ryan Bailey has announced the signing of the 2019-2020 recruiting class. With the addition of eight new freshmen and two transfers, this year's recruiting class features ten young ladies with a lot of local flare. This group of young ladies hail from 4 different states (West Virginia, Virginia, Ohio, and North Carolina).

Derricka Bramwell, 6'0", Post, Columbus, OH

Derricka is coming to Bluefield State from the great state of Ohio and Bishop Ready High School (Columbus, OH). Miss Bramwell was named team MVP her Senior year, while also being named Special Mention All-Ohio this past season. The 1st team All Central Catholic League award winner nearly averaged a double-double while putting up 16 points and 9.9 rebounds per contest. She was most recently named the MVP of the Jump 25 All-Star game and was awarded 2nd Team All Central District and Honorable Mention All-Metro.

Ericah Burton, 5'4", Guard, Cedar Bluff, VA

Ericah comes to Bluefield State College after spending her freshman year as a redshirt at Tusculum College in Tennessee. She is no stranger to the local area though, as she played her high school ball at nearby Richlands High School (Virginia). She finished her high school career averaging just over 20 points per game and is the all-time leader in three-point field goals made (female or male) at RHS. A 1000-point scorer in high school, Ericah was named All-County and All-Conference all four years, and was named All-Region three times.

Haleigh Cook, 5'9", Forward, Van, WV

Haleigh joins the Big Blues women's basketball program after playing her high school years at Van High School (Van, WV). She was twice named Honorable Mention All-State and All-County. She averaged 10.6 per game throughout her high school career. A member of the National Honor Society, Haleigh was also named the West Virginia Hometown Invitational Tournament MVP.

Hannah Foster, 5'7", Guard, Alloy, WV

The 1000-point scorer at Valley-Fayette High School will be joining the Big Blues after a standout high school career. Having averaged 18.5 points per game over the past two seasons, Hannah also set the school record for points in a single game with 43 points vs. Richwood. Her efforts on the court were rewarded with her being named 2nd team all-state as a junior and 3rd team all-state as a senior.

Ameera McClain, 5'9", Guard, Raleigh, NC

Ameera is the lone Junior College transfer of the recruiting class. Having played the last two seasons at one of the top programs in the NJCAA Region 10, Louisburg College, Ameera will bring a lot of experience and leadership to the Big Blues. Having averaged almost nine points per game during her freshman and sophomore campaigns, she helped lead Louisburg to and overall record of 41-15 and regional runner-up. She shot a sizzling 44% from 3-point range and had an overall field goal percentage of 47%. She also contributed 3.5 rebounds and 2.78 assists per game.

Haley McComas, 5'8", Guard, Huntington, WV

Haley, comes to the Big Blues from Spring Valley High School (WV) after a stand-out senior campaign. The crafty point guard averaged a double-double (almost a triple-double) with 12 points, 10 assists, and 8 rebounds a game. She was named first team All Cardinal Conference, Honorable Mention All-State, and second team Mountain State Athletic Conference. The National Honor Society member was also a participant in the West Virginia North-South All-Star game.

Carly Moretto, 5'4", Guard, Bluefield, WV

Carly is joining the Big Blues from local Bluefield High School, but also having played her freshman and sophomore years across the border at Graham High School (VA). Carly is a 1000-point scorer with a knack for knocking down the three-pointer. She averaged 12 points and 6 assists a game during her high school career. She was twice named to the All-Conference team and named the Bluefield Daily Telegraph player of the week once as well. She holds the record for most points scored in a game at Graham High School with 40 points.

Brooke Russell, 5'9", Forward, Welch, WV

Brooke will be reunited with her Wyoming East High School teammate (Sophomore-Kara Sandy) in joining Bluefield State. Brooke was part of the 2018 WV Class AA State Championship team and State Runner-Up team in 2019. Her 9.7 points and 8.4 rebounds per game were recognized with being named Honorable Mention All-State her senior year. The 8.4 rebounds led her team her senior year, which is a pretty daunting task when playing along side a teammate who was 6'5".

Autumn Spangler, 5'9", Guard/Forward, Bramwell, WV

Spangler will be joining the Big Blues from right down the street as she played her high school ball right here at Bluefield High School. During her stellar high school career, Autumn was a 1000-point scorer who averaged a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds per game. She was named 3rd team All-State this past year, while also garnering Honorable Mention All-State and All-Tournament Team (at the State Tournament) during her prep days. A participant in the West Virginia North-South All-Star game isn't just a force on the hardwood, as she was the Valedictorian of her graduating class and was a member of the National Honor Society and a Promise Scholar.

Eriea Totten, 5'10", Forward, Bluefield, WV

Eriea will be joining a slew of her high school teammates at Bluefield State. The Bluefield High School graduate will be joining returning team members Jia Coppola and Dani Janutolo, and incoming freshmen Moretto and Spangler as teammates once again. Totten is arguably one of the most athletic signees of this class and was consistently a leading rebounder on her high school team. During her high school days, she was part of a team that went to three straight WV High School State Tournaments (Final 8 teams in the state).
