After suffering a heartbreaking double-overtime loss on the road Saturday afternoon, the Lady Blues hit the road again Wednesday night traveling to Mars Hill University looking to get back in the win column. Thirteen seconds into the ball game sophomore guard Alexus Tucker would hit a running one hand floater and the Lady Blues would never see the game get closer than that two points the rest of the evening.
The Lady Blues would start the game on a 11-2 run to set the tone for the night. And even though they would miss multiple looks around the rim, something that would plague them the majority of the night, the Lady Blues would still maintain a 19-11 lead at the end of the first period.
The second would be a lot of back and forth basketball until the end of the quarter when the home team would cut the lead all the way back down to just two points. However, Sydney Coleman would hit a three pointer from deep with just 4 seconds remaining in the half to send the Lady Blues into the locker room up five, 34-29.
The start of the second half belonged to the visitors as they would start the half with a 9-0 run and hold the home team scoreless for almost 5 minutes. Kylah Webb scored the first six points of the run, capped off with a three pointer from Tucker. The onslaught would continue throughout the period and see the Lady Blues carry a 57-38 lead heading into the final stanza.
In the fourth period, the Lady Blues would shoot 58.3% from the floor and make their free throws to hold the home team at bay and after emptying the bench towards the end of the period, the Lady Blues would walk away victorious 77-66.
Webb would lead the way for the Lady Blues with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Tucker would add another solid performance with 13 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds. Kara Sandy added 13 and Derricka Bramwell added 11 to round out the double-digit scorers. Lauryn Hatfield would come off the bench to have a game high 12 rebounds.
The Lady Blues will be back in action again on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 when they take to the hardwood versus Washington Adventist University. This will be part of a double header with the men's team as they tip-off before the women at 2:00 versus The Apprentice School.
