After two tough losses earlier in the week, the Lady Blues got back to their winning ways with a solid 80-46 victory at home versus Warren Wilson College. All 18 players in uniform got to see action on Saturday afternoon with no-one seeing less than five minutes of playing time.
A three pointer just 6 seconds into the ball game from Dani Janutolo would be the last time the game would be tied as the Lady Blues wasted no time racing out to a 9-0 lead to start the game. The visitng Owls would not fly away however and would trim the lead to 16-11 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second period, the Lady Blues would step up their defense and hold the visitors to just one made field goal and hold them scoreless for over eight and half minutes. This would result in the Lady Blues outscoring the Owls 27-5 over the period and see them take a commanding 43-16 halftime lead. The period would see the Lady Blues force 8 turnovers and outrebound the visitors 19-3.
The second half saw the Lady Blues build their lead to 34 points by the media timeout in the third period and Coach Ryan Bailey would start to play the reserves over the last 15 minutes of the game. The lead would stay between 29 to 35 the rest of the way as the home team cruised to the final margin.
A balanced scoring attack would lead the 80 points for the Lady Blues as only Janutolo and Lauryn Hatfield would break into double figures with 11 apiece. Kylah Webb would turn in 8 points and 6 rebounds in just 11 minutes of action, while Kara Sandy, Natori Nesbit, Autumn Spangler, and Brooke Russell would each add 7 points off of the bench. Russell would also have a game high 8 rebounds.
Next up for the Lady Blues will be a home double-header with the men's team as they both take on the visiting Mustangs of Mid-Atlantic Christian University on Friday, December 13. Tip-Off for the men's game will be at 5:00 with the women set to start at 7:00.
