Saturday afternoon would see the Lady Blues take on Salem University in a contest that would be full of emotion. The day started off with Assitant Coach Lydnsay Hatfield having to take the reins for the day as Head Coach Ryan Bailey was busy welcoming his second child into the world. The team would respond in a strong effort that would result in a hard fought 73-65 win.
The two evenly matched programs would go blow for blow in the first quarter which would see the visiting Tigers race out to a 15-9 lead (the largest they would have of the night), but the Lady Blues would go on a 7-1 run to end the quarter tied 16-16. Kylah Webb would lead the way with 7 points and 4 rebounds in the quarter.
The second quarter would see Alexus Tucker hit two three-pointers on her way to an 8 point quarter and Ameera McClain add 5 as the home team would build a small 35-30 lead heading into the half. The third quarter would start with Salem scoring the first 6 points of the quarter to regain the lead, however the home team would rattle off five straight to take the lead back by one. The teams would trade baskets for most of the quarter with neither team building a lead of greater than four and a lay-up from Derricka Bramwell off an assist from Lauryn Hatfield to end the period would see the home team down just two heading into the final frame (56-54).
The fourth quarter would see the Lady Blues step up their defense and go on an 8-0 run in the first four minutes to retake the lead and never give it up again. They would build their lead to 8 with just over a minute to go remaining in the game, but the visitors would not go away quietly. After two made free throws from the visitors, they would force a turnover and earn a traditional three point play cutting the lead to three with just 49 ticks remaining on the game clock. They would foul Tucker for would go the line to shoot two free throws. After sinking the first, she missed the second, but Dani Janutolo would grab the offensive rebound. After being fouled, she would make both free throws and Jia Coppola would add two more to secure the victory.
Tucker would lead the way with 18 points, while Webb would add a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Both Coppola and Janutolo would just miss out on double-doubles as they would both grab 10 rebounds and score 9 and 8 points respectively. On the evening, the Lady Blues would outrebound the Tigers 51-34.
