Winston-Salem, NC- The Big Blues VB team went on the road for a midweek match against Winston Salem State on Tuesday. The ladies went down 2-0 early but were able to battle back in set 3 and win 25-23. But in the 4th set Winston Salem State secured the victory with a 25-17 set win, to win the match 3-1.
Brittany Bonamy lead the team in Kills with 14 for the night. She also had the most attack opportunities with 41. Leandrea Armbrister was setting very well for the team tallying 31 assists. On the defensive side, the team preformed excellent and it is what helped the ladies win set #3. Everyone but Brittney Deveaux recorded a dig and Jessie Rehwald led the team with 25, 14 more than the next best. The 61 total digs were one of the highest totals this season and was 6 more than Winston-Salem's total.
But the teams Achilles heel for this game was again unforced errors. The ladies committed 29 attack errors which put their kill % at 9.6%. The team also continued to struggle serving the ball committing 13 service errors in the 4 sets. The ladies will look to clean up some of these mistakes this week in practice as they have exactly a week off before traveling the way northern part of the state to take on West Liberty.
