Bluefield, WV- The Big Blues Volleyball Team won in dramatic fashion today as they defeated crosstown rival Bluefield College 3-1. This was a rematch from earlier in the season in which the Rams swept the Big Blues out of their gym. But today had a different tune and the ladies came out and finished off the Rams in 4 sets.
Junior Brittney Deveaux was lights out today having a kill percentage of .647. With that percentage she will surely stay toward the top of the overall kill percentage of the NCAA Leaderboards. Deveaux was not only unstoppable on the offensive side, but she was a force in the Middle Block. On the night she had 8 total blocks, 5 of which were Solo Blocks.
The Rams did provide some late game drama and could have won all the sets Bluefield State ended up winning. In the 1st the score was tied 23-23 before Bluefield State was able to get 2 points to seal Set 1. Set 2 was a little less stressful for the Big Blues as they won 25-19. But Bluefield College came roaring back and won Set 3 25-20. Then came Set 4 and neither team was going to give up this Set. The entire time the Big Blues and the Rams traded points and no one was ahead more than 4 at any point though out the set. The Rams had Set point at 24-23 but Bluefield State fought it off and the game was tied 25-25. The fans out in attendance got to seem some incredible volleyball as each team kept battling back not wanting to lose Set 4. Multiple times after 25-25 the game was tied and you could feel the tension in from the players. But the Big Blues fought until the very end and ended up winning the 4th set 31-29 and winning the match.
