Ladies Fall Twice on the Road

Ladies Fall Twice on the Road

Athens, WV- The Big Blues are coming to the end of their regular season and took the short trip up to Athens, WV to participate in a tri-match against Virginia State and Concord University. Unfortunately, things were not falling for the Big Blues as they ended up losing both matches, 0-3 to Virginia State and 2-3 to Concord.

The 1st match for Bluefield State came against a very strong Virginia State team. BSC came out a little slow and could not really recover until the 3rd set. In the 1st 2 sets alone the ladies were only able to muster 28 total points. But in the 3rd set, the ladies showed some fight but came up short 25-21. Jessie Rehwald in a rare opportunity this season did not play Libero and was really strong on the offensive side of the ball. Rehwald ended the match with 8 kills, team high for the match. Senior Tyann Thomas also was one of the bright spots on the offensive side, tallying 7 kills and 1 service ace.

Match 2 saw Bluefield State face off against rival Concord. The Mountain Lions came out strong and really dominated the Big Blues in set 1 winning 25-14. But credit needs to be given to this Big Blues squad who battled back and ended up forcing a 5th set after winning sets 2 & 4. In the last set the ladies just ran out of steam in fighting back, losing 15-10 and the overall match 3-2. Tanasia Blake, Jessie Rehwald and Brittney Deveaux woke up if you will in this match, each having 13 kills. The team combined for 12 total blocks which helped force that 5th set.

The Ladies will be back in the safe confines of Ned Shott Gymnasium this Thursday at 6:00 pm as they take on St. Augustine's. The game will be Senior Night for the Ladies so come to support the 6 graduating seniors as we honor them for their service and dedication to the Bluefield State Athletic Department.

This is also a big week for the team as they find out if they received a bid to the USCAA National Championships. The selection show is Tuesday November 1st at 3:00 pm and you can watch the selection show here: http://www.theuscaa.com/landing/index
