Salisbury, NC- The Women's Cross Country opened up their Fall 2016 season on the road in the Catawba Chick-fil-a Invitational. Bluefield State finished 9th out of 11 teams on the women's side as the team averaged a 25:27.76 5K.
Senior Marta Briales set the tone for the Big Blues coming out with a blistering pace in her first ever collegiate race. Briales ran her 5K in 21:40.69 to give her 14th place overall finish. This was an incredible performance as she has never run a Cross Country race in her life. Shonte Cargill also had a really strong first showing. Cargill ran the 5K in 25:30.01, placing her 46th of the 72-member field.
The ladies are off this weekend before traveling to Roanoke, VA for the Roanoke Invitational on Saturday, September 17th. The women are scheduled to hit the course at 10:30 with the men to follow.
