Men's & Women's Cross Country Team's Eye USCAA National Championship

Bluefield, WV- The Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams are gearing up for the 2016 USCAA National Championships in Virginia Beach, VA this Thursday and Friday. The teams look to finish their season on a high note as they are competing in this National Championship for the first time as Bluefield State is a new member to the USCAA.

The 2016 Men's Team has had a great season up to this point with a couple of 1st place finishes. Back in September the men ran against Bluefield College in the Battle of Bluefield's and dominated the race. The in early October the men went out and won the Livingstone Imitational with a total time of 2:49:11. This year's team is led by Junior's Nathaniel Evans, Jarod Brown and Chris McBride. In the Livingstone Race, all 3 of them finished in the top 10 with Nathaniel finishing 2nd over-all. The Big Blues will look to carry this success over to the National Championship as all three aim to make the All-American Team.

The Women have also had a very successful season and will look to perform well in the USCAA's. This year's team had one race win vs Bluefield College and West Virginia State and two 2nd place finishes, the first coming at a meet hosted by Charleston and the second coming at a meet hosted by Livingstone. Marta Briales has been the team's leader this season, placing second in the Battle of Bluefield's and 1st at the Livingstone Invitational. Her success along with Juniors Shonte Cargill and Jessie Rehwald will hopefully help the team perform exceptionally well in this year's National Tournament.

The USCAA Cross Country National Championship is being hosted in Virginia Beach, Virginia and coincides with the Volleyball and Soccer USCAA National Championships. This will be the Big Blues 1st experience at such an event and both teams aim to make their mark in this new Association. Top 7 runners in each race will make 1st Team All-American and the following 7 will be the 2nd Team All-American. The women are scheduled to start at 9:30 with the men to follow immediately after.
